A new musical called, The Band's Visit is now on Broadway. Previews started October 7th at the Ethel Barrymore Theater.
A few weeks ago, I attended a press preview where the cast performed three numbers from the show at the Strand Book store in Union Square. They served wine and hors d'oeuvres in a library. It was so lovely and intimate. Composer David Yazbek made some funny jokes to the crowd including one about Soupy Sales. I think I was the only one laughing.
Before the show, I had the opportunity to interview John Cariani (who was Tony-nominated for his role as Nigel Bottom in Something Rotten! -- which was anything BUT!). We even got a photo together. I then had a few moments to interview Tony Shalhoub. This is his first musical! Here is my interview for Entertainment Tonight.
